Canon LBP2900 Driver for Windows 10 and 11: Install It and Fix 'Not Printing'

The Canon imageCLASS LBP2900 (sold as the LBP2900B in Pakistan) is everywhere — in homes, schools and shops — because it is simple and its 303 cartridge costs very little to refill. It uses Canon's own CAPT printing system, though, and Windows does not install its driver on its own. Most 'my Canon printer is not working' problems we see are really driver problems, and they are fixable in ten minutes.

Step 1: download the right driver

• Go to Canon's official support website for your region (Canon Asia or Canon Middle East covers Pakistan) and search for LBP2900.
• Choose your operating system: Windows 11 is 64-bit only; on Windows 10 check Settings → System → About → System type.
• Download the 'LBP2900/2900B CAPT Printer Driver' for 64-bit (or 32-bit for older Windows 10 PCs).
• Avoid driver download sites that are not Canon's — some bundle adware, and many offer the wrong version.

Step 2: install in the right order

• Disconnect the printer's USB cable from the PC.
• Run the downloaded file; it extracts a folder. Open it and run Setup.exe (in the x64 folder for 64-bit).
• Choose 'Install with USB connection' (or similar). Accept the prompts.
• Only when the installer says so, switch the printer on and connect the USB cable. Windows detects it and finishes the install.
• Print a test page: Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → Canon LBP2900 → Printer properties → Print test page.

Fixes when the LBP2900 does not print

• Job sits in the queue, nothing happens: open the queue, cancel all jobs, restart the printer and the PC. If it keeps happening, open Services, restart 'Print Spooler', and try again.
• Printer not responding or 'error — printing': plug the USB cable directly into a port on the PC (not a hub or front-panel port) and use a short, good-quality cable. Long cheap cables are a common cause.
• Printer appears twice or as 'Unspecified device': remove every Canon LBP2900 entry from Printers & scanners, unplug the cable, restart, and reinstall in the order above.
• Driver installed but prints garbage or blank pages: you probably have the wrong driver (for example a generic one Windows picked). Remove it and install Canon's CAPT driver.
• Faded or light prints: that is the 303 cartridge, not the driver — see refilled toner and common laser print problems; the same fixes apply to Canon.

Can the LBP2900 print from a phone or over a network?

Not directly. The LBP2900 is a USB-only, host-based printer, so phones cannot find it. Buying an LBP2900 in 2026

It is still a sound buy for a home or one student printing black-and-white text. A tested Canon LBP2900B costs about PKR 19,000 at Printerwaala, and the newer, faster LBP6030 about PKR 16,500 (September 2026).
