Printer Repair Cost in Pakistan: What Each Fault Costs to Fix
'How much will it cost to fix?' is the first thing everyone asks, and the honest answer is that it depends almost entirely on which part has failed. Labour on a desktop laser is a small share of the bill; the part is the rest. Our family workshop on 6th Road, Rawalpindi has repaired printers for over 25 years, so below is the order of cost we see every week — cheapest first — with what each fault looks like on the page, so you can walk into any repair shop knowing roughly what you are dealing with. We quote per model because part prices move with the rupee and with import stock; send us the model and a photo and we will give you the number before any work starts.
Printer repair cost at a glance
| Fault | Typical symptom | Cost level | Worth fixing? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cleaning, paper path, driver or setup | Jams from debris, 'offline', won't print from one PC | Low | Always |
| Pickup roller / separation pad | Doesn't pick paper, picks several sheets | Low | Always |
| Cartridge or drum (not the printer) | Faded, streaks, grey background, repeating marks | Low–medium | Replace the cartridge, not the printer |
| Transfer roller | Very light print across the whole page | Medium | Usually |
| Fuser (film, rollers or assembly) | Toner rubs off, creases, error 50 / 49, grinding | Medium | Usually, on office models |
| Laser scanner unit | Error 51/52, blank or vertical banding pages | Medium–high | On office and enterprise models |
| Control panel / touch screen | Cracked, dead touch, lines on the display | Medium–high | On MFPs and enterprise models |
| Formatter board | Blank screen, no network, error 79/49 that returns | High | Only on higher-value printers |
| Scanner / ADF assembly on an MFP | Scan lines, ADF won't feed, scanner error | Medium–high | If you use the scanner daily |
The cheap fixes: cleaning, rollers and pads
Most 'broken' printers that come through our door are not broken. Paper dust, a torn scrap of paper wedged near the fuser, a worn pickup roller or a glazed separation pad cause the majority of paper jams and misfeeds. A roller kit for common HP LaserJets (P2035, P2055dn, M401dn, M402dne, M404dn) is inexpensive and fitted in minutes. Driver problems and the familiar 'printer offline' message are free to fix yourself — see our Windows 11 driver and offline fix. If your printer only misfeeds in humid weather, try fresh, dry paper before anything else; our paper guide explains why thin 70 gsm stock causes double-feeds.
Is it the cartridge or the printer?
On most HP LaserJets the drum is inside the toner cartridge, so faded pages, grey background, a line down every page or a mark that repeats every 75–95 mm are usually the cartridge, not the printer. Swap in a known-good cartridge before paying for a repair. This is also where cheap refills cost people money: a leaking, overfilled cartridge contaminates the transfer roller and fuser, turning a cartridge problem into a printer repair. Our refilled toner guide covers what a good refill includes.
Mid-range repairs: fuser, transfer roller, laser unit
- Fuser: the heated unit that bonds toner to paper. Symptoms are toner that smudges when rubbed, creased or wrinkled pages, a grinding noise, or 'error 50' on HP. On small printers the fuser film (sleeve) can be replaced on its own; on office models the whole assembly is often swapped. It is the most common real repair on high-mileage printers.
- Transfer roller: the sponge roller under the cartridge. A worn or toner-contaminated one gives very light print over the whole page even with a new cartridge. Moderate cost, quick to fit.
- Laser scanner unit: produces the image on the drum. Error 51 or 52, completely blank pages, or banding across the page point here. Worth replacing on M402/M404/M507-class machines; on a PKR 17,000 personal printer it often is not.
Printer screen repair cost: touch panels and control panels
Touch screens on HP MFPs and enterprise models (M426, M527, M577, E-series) crack when something is dropped on them, lose touch in one area, or show lines. Cost depends on whether the glass digitiser can be replaced alone or the full control panel assembly has to be changed — enterprise panels cost considerably more than the small 2-line displays on older models. Before paying for a screen, check the cause: a display that stays black while the printer's lights and fan are running is often the formatter board or a loose panel cable, not the screen. A cracked screen that still responds can usually be used as is, and most settings can be changed from the printer's web page on your network instead. On small printers without a touch screen, a dead button panel is usually a cheap ribbon-cable or button-board fix.
The expensive end: formatter boards and scanner assemblies
The formatter is the printer's computer — it runs the network port, the display and the print language. When it fails you get a blank screen, a printer that no longer appears on the network, or error 79 / 49 codes that return after every restart. A replacement board is the costliest common repair on a desktop laser, which is why it is only worth doing on higher-value machines: M404dn, M426dn, M507, M527, colour and A3 models. On MFPs, scanner-glass lines are usually just dirt on the narrow ADF glass strip (free to clean — see our scanning guide), but a failed scanner lamp, carriage motor or ADF assembly is a mid-to-high cost repair.
Ink tank and inkjet repairs
- Clogged print head (missing lines, colours wrong): run the head clean and nozzle check first, two or three times at most. A head left unused for weeks may need a manual flush; a dead head on an Epson L-series or HP Smart Tank is expensive, often close to the price of a new entry printer.
- 'Service required' / alternate blinking lights on Epson EcoTanks: the waste-ink pad counter is full. It needs the pad cleaned or replaced and the counter reset — a routine workshop job, not a dead printer.
- Air in the ink lines or streaks after refilling with the wrong ink: flush and prime; always use the ink made for that model.
Photocopier and copier repair
Floor-standing copiers (Ricoh, Konica Minolta, Canon, Sharp, Toshiba) use separate drums, developer and fuser units with their own service counters, and parts cost more than on desktop lasers. Many offices in the twin cities now replace an old copier with an A4 laser MFP or an A3 HP MFP rather than keep repairing it; our photocopy machine vs laser MFP guide runs the numbers.
When the repair is not worth it
Use the rule we apply on our own bench: if a repair costs more than about half of what an equivalent tested printer costs, replace instead — unless the printer is a high-value office or enterprise model that is otherwise in good condition. For reference, certified imported replacements start around PKR 20,000 for an HP LaserJet P2035, PKR 31,000 for an M402dne and PKR 39,000 for an M404dn. The full reasoning, with the two exceptions, is in repair or replace?.
Get a diagnosis before a quote. WhatsApp the model, a photo of the display or error, and a scan or photo of a bad page to our workshop — we will tell you what has failed, what it costs and whether it is worth doing. Details on the repair and toner refill page.

Frequently asked questions
How much does printer repair cost in Pakistan?
It depends on the part. Cleaning, driver fixes and pickup rollers are low cost; a fuser, transfer roller or laser unit is mid-range; a formatter board, touch screen or MFP scanner assembly is the expensive end. Get a diagnosis first — many faults are the cartridge, not the printer.
How much does a printer screen repair cost?
Replacing only the cracked touch glass costs less than a full control panel assembly, and enterprise panels cost more than small-office ones. Check first whether the screen is really at fault: a black display on a printer that is otherwise powered is often the formatter board or panel cable.
Is it worth repairing an old HP LaserJet?
Usually yes for rollers, fuser and transfer roller on office models such as the P2055dn, M402dne or M404dn. If the quote is more than about half the price of a tested replacement, replacing is the better buy.
Why is my printer printing faded pages after a repair?
On most HP LaserJets the drum is part of the toner cartridge, so faded or grey pages usually mean a worn or poorly refilled cartridge rather than a printer fault. Try a known-good cartridge before paying for further repair.
Where can I get a printer repaired in Rawalpindi or Islamabad?
