HP Enterprise MFPs Compared: M527 vs E62565 / E62665 vs M5035

Search data tells us many people look up these model numbers — 'hp m527', 'e62665', 'ai62555' — without finding a plain explanation. They are HP's heavy-duty mono multifunction printers: built for departments, schools, law chambers and photocopy counters, and imported in good numbers from offices abroad that replace them on a lease cycle. This is how they compare.

HP LaserJet Enterprise Flow MFP M527

The M527 is where enterprise MFPs start. It prints at 43 ppm, and the 'Flow' version adds a 100-sheet single-pass duplex scanner (both sides of a page scanned in one pass), an 8-inch touch screen and, on many units, a pull-out keyboard and internal storage. It shares the 89A/89X/89Y cartridge family with the M507; the 20,000-page 89Y gives the lowest cost per page. Rated for 2,000–7,500 pages a month with a 150,000-page duty cycle, it suits an office of 10–30 people or a school admin block.

HP LaserJet Managed MFP E62555, E62565 and E62665

The E-series are the 'Managed' versions HP supplied to large companies through service contracts, which is why so many come back on the import market in good condition. The E62555 prints at 55 ppm and the E62565 and E62665 at up to 65 ppm; the E625xx models use 37A/37X/37Y toner and the newer E626xx use 147A/147X/147Y, with high-yield cartridges of around 41,000 pages. The duty cycle is 450,000 pages a month and HP rates them for 5,000–40,000 pages monthly — photocopier territory in an A4 body. If you are replacing an old floor-standing copier that mostly copies A4, this is the machine to look at.

Managed-series toner is sometimes sold in 'MC' contract versions. Before buying any E-series machine, confirm with the seller which toner it accepts and where you will buy it — we tell you exactly which cartridge each unit takes and supply it.

HP LaserJet M5035 MFP: when you need A3

The M5035 is an older A3 multifunction: 35 ppm on A4, 18 ppm on A3, automatic duplex printing and copying, an A3 flatbed and a 200,000-page duty cycle. It uses the 15,000-page 70A cartridge. Architecture offices, schools printing A3 result sheets and chambers copying A3 plans buy it because it is the cheapest way to get A3 copying from HP. If you never touch A3, the E-series is faster and newer. More A3 options are on our A3 printers page.

The alternative: a fast printer plus a fast scanner

For counters that mostly print, a 61 ppm HP M608 paired with a 65 ppm Panasonic document scanner costs less than an E-series and keeps working if one unit is down. The trade-off is copying: you scan, then print, instead of pressing Copy. We compare the M608 with the M507 and M404dn in this guide.

Which should you buy?

  • Office of 10–30 people, heavy scanning, up to about 7,500 pages a month → M527.
  • Replacing a copier, 10,000+ pages a month, mostly A4 → E62565 or E62665.
  • A3 copying is essential → M5035 (or see colour A3 in the HP enterprise colour guide).
  • Mostly printing, occasional scanning → M608 plus a document scanner.
  • Under 2,000 pages a month → a desktop MFP is enough; see M1536dnf vs M227fdn vs M426dn.

Enterprise machines are heavy — plan the table or stand, a network point and stable power: a surge-protected stabiliser, and for backup a pure sine-wave UPS or inverter rated well above the printer's power (HP advises against small computer UPS units for LaserJets). We deliver, set up and network them across Rawalpindi and Islamabad, and service them from our 6th Road workshop.
