How to Find a Printer's IP Address
Every network or Wi-Fi printer gets an address on your network, such as 192.168.1.25. You need it to add the printer on a new PC, to open its built-in settings page in a browser, to set up scan to email, or to fix a printer that Windows suddenly calls offline. Here is how to find it, from quickest to most thorough. USB-only printers, such as the HP LaserJet 1020 or P2035, have no IP address — they connect through the PC they're plugged into.
1. On the printer's screen
- HP LaserJet Pro and Enterprise with a touchscreen: tap the network or wireless icon on the home screen, or open Setup / Settings → Network → TCP/IP or Network Summary.
- HP models with a two-line display: Setup → Network Setup → Show IP Address.
- Brother: Menu → Network → WLAN or Wired LAN → TCP/IP → IP Address.
- Canon imageCLASS / i-SENSYS with a screen: Menu → Network Settings, or Monitor / Status → Network Information.
2. Print a configuration or network page
Printers without a screen print the address on a report. On HP LaserJets without a display, such as the P1606dn and P2055dn, you print a configuration page by holding the Go button for a few seconds until the Ready light blinks; models with a display, such as the M402 and M404, print it from Setup → Reports. The network section lists the IPv4 address, subnet and gateway. Brother lasers print a Network Configuration report from Menu → Print Reports. On Epson EcoTank Wi-Fi models such as the L3150, L3250 and L1250, hold the Wi-Fi button for about 7 seconds to print the network status sheet (a short press prints a connection report instead). Canon PIXMA G-series Wi-Fi models print their LAN details, including the IP address, when you load A4 paper and press the Information button. The same configuration page also shows the lifetime page count, explained in our page count guide.
3. On Windows 11
- Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → choose the printer → Printer properties → Ports tab. The ticked port often carries the IP in its name (for example 192.168.1.25 or IP_192.168.1.25). Click Configure Port to see it in full.
- If the port is a 'WSD' port, it shows no IP — the printer was added automatically. Find the IP by another method here, then change the port to a Standard TCP/IP port; it is far more reliable. See our offline fix guide.
- Some printers show a 'Printer web page' or device web page link on the printer's settings screen — the address it opens is the IP.
4. From a phone app
The HP Smart, Epson Smart Panel, Canon PRINT and Brother Mobile Connect apps find printers on the same Wi-Fi and show their details, including the IP address, under printer settings or printer information. This is the easiest route at home.
5. In the router's device list
Open your router's admin page (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 — the address and login are on the router's sticker; PTCL, Nayatel, StormFiber and other ISP routers all have one) and look for a list called DHCP Clients, Connected Devices or LAN Devices. The printer appears by its name (for example HP1A2B3C or EPSON123456) with its IP and MAC address.
Stop the IP changing: reserve it on the router
Most 'my printer went offline' complaints in offices happen because the router hands the printer a new address after a power cut or restart, while the PCs still look for the old one. Fix it once: in the router's DHCP or LAN settings, find Address Reservation (or Static DHCP / DHCP Binding), and reserve the printer's current IP against its MAC address (printed on the configuration page). You can instead set a static IP in the printer's own web page, but choose one outside the router's automatic range — a reservation on the router is the safer option for most offices.
| Where to look | Works for | What you see |
|---|---|---|
| Printer screen | Models with a display | IP under Network / Wireless |
| Configuration page | All network printers | IPv4, gateway, MAC, page count |
| Windows Ports tab | Printers on a TCP/IP port | IP in the port name |
| Phone app | Wi-Fi printers | IP under printer info |
| Router device list | Everything on the network | Name, IP and MAC |
Type the IP address into a browser on the same network to open the printer's own settings page — the place to set sleep time, tray paper size, scan to email and a fixed IP. Our scan to email setup guide starts there.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find my HP printer's IP address without a screen?
Print a configuration page — on many HP LaserJets, hold the Go/Resume button for a few seconds until the Ready light blinks. The IPv4 address is on the network section. HP Smart on a phone also shows it.
How do I find my printer's IP address on Windows 11?
Go to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → your printer → Printer properties → Ports, and look at the ticked port or click Configure Port. A WSD port shows no IP; check the router or the printer's network page instead.
Why does my printer's IP address keep changing?
The router assigns addresses automatically and can give the printer a new one after a restart. Reserve the printer's IP against its MAC address in the router's DHCP settings so it always gets the same address.
Does a USB printer have an IP address?
No. A USB-only printer is reached through the PC it is plugged into. To share it, share it from that PC, or choose a printer with Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
