What a printed page costs in Pakistan in 2026

We priced the toner, ink and paper for 14 printers that are common in Pakistani homes, schools and offices, using what Pakistani retailers were charging on 1 November 2026. The cartridge you buy matters far more than the printer: depending on the cartridge, one A4 page costs anywhere from Rs 3.23 to Rs 20.19.

Key findings

  1. Genuine toner makes a page two to five times dearer. On a mono laser, a page printed with a genuine HP or Canon cartridge costs Rs 6.99–20.19 including paper. The same page with a compatible cartridge costs Rs 3.23–5.71. Per page of toner alone, genuine is a median 10× the price of compatible.
  2. Small cartridges make the dearest pages. HP's current entry lasers (Laser 107, 108 and MFP 135) take a 1,000-page HP 107A cartridge, so a genuine page costs Rs 19.90: about 6 times a black page from an ink tank.
  3. Genuine high-yield toner is effectively unavailable. None of the six high-yield HP cartridges we looked for (05X, 26X, 59X, 30X, 89Y, 37Y) was on sale as genuine at the retailers we checked. These are the cartridges that make office lasers cheap to run, so buyers in Pakistan either pay for standard genuine cartridges or switch to compatibles.
  4. Once toner is cheap, paper is most of the bill. A ream of PaperOne Copier 70gsm A4 at Rs 1,450 works out to Rs 2.90 a sheet: 51–90% of a page printed with compatible toner. Printing double-sided saves more than any toner switch.
  5. Ink tanks are the cheapest genuine option for black pages. An Epson EcoTank L3110 prints a black page for Rs 3.23 with genuine Epson ink, against Rs 9.90 for an HP LaserJet 1020 with a genuine 12A. Across both ink tanks, a page costs Rs 3.00–3.84.
  6. At home vs the photocopy shop. Shops in Islamabad charge around Rs 3–5 for a black-and-white page. Printing at home only beats that with compatible toner or an ink tank; with genuine laser toner, a home page costs Rs 6.99–20.19, well above a shop copy.

How we worked it out

  • Prices. We checked Pakistani retailers' listings on 1 November 2026: Daraz, Mustafa Computers, Acom, HBC, Shophive, Mega.pk, W11stop, Katib.pk and others. For each supply we used the cheapest listing that was in stock or open to order, so genuine cartridges are shown at their best case. Listings sold as “original” at compatible prices, and import resellers charging several times local retail, were left out.
  • Pages per cartridge. Manufacturers' rated yields (ISO/IEC 19752 for toner, 24711 for ink), which assume about 5% of the page is covered: a typical page of text. Pictures and heavy tables use more.
  • Paper. PaperOne Copier 70gsm A4, 500 sheets at Rs 1,450 from Daraz. Reams ranged from Rs 855 (Paper Right 70gsm) to Rs 1,900 (Double A 80gsm), or Rs 1.71–Rs 3.80 a sheet.
  • Not included: electricity, repairs, the printer's own wear, and colour pages. All pages are single-sided.

Limits

  • Genuine prices vary widely between shops: the same HP 12A was Rs 13,999 at one retailer and Rs 27,000 at another. Every quote we found is listed below.
  • Compatible cartridges vary in quality. A poor one prints fewer pages than rated, or streaks, and that raises its real cost per page.
  • Photocopy rates come from a single Islamabad shop guide (13 April 2026) and are indicative only.
  • Disclosure: Printerwaala sells printers and toner. No toner, ink or paper price in this report is ours; they all come from other retailers, linked below.
